![[Image Enhancement] Photos can fade and some are under or overexposed when taken. Image enhancement can restore the lustre to provide colourful, vibrant digital images.](images/titlel.jpg)

Digital ICE is a technology developed by Applied Science Fiction to aid in the removal of dust and scratches from slide and negative scans. Unlike other solutions which rely on software to 'clean-up' an image after scanning, Digital ICE' uses infrared light during the scanning process to detect and repair damage.
Applying Digital ICE™ during the scanning process offers a significant improvement over other methods and, while this increases processing time, the value is visible in the results. This technology is applied free of charge to all colour slide and negative scans.

Once crisp and vibrant pictures can lose their lustre and turn yellow or orange, due to chemical deterioration. In the image enhancement process, each photo is reviewed and the colours corrected to provide an optimal balance of colour and contrast.

One common problem with well-loved photos is the presence of dust and scratches. Due to the high resolution captured by digital scanning, these imperfections appear more prominent in digital scans, than in an original photo. During the scanning process, your photos are ‘cleaned’ with digital dust and scratch removal software to reduce the appearance of these imperfections.

Every image scanned is individually cropped and rotated to produce ready-to-use digital images. This is part of the quality assurance process.

For photos in reasonable condition, the image enhancement process will produce a great result. For those photos that have suffered damage or significant wear & tear, you might like to consider restoration to return these images to new.
